People with a disability need socialisation and to participate in new experiences within their community. FamilyCare provides support to people with a range of disabilities, and their families through a range of activities both centre based and out in the community.
To assist with the facilitation of these activities, Disability Support Services rely heavily on volunteers. Volunteers work under the direction of program staff to assist people with a disability to actively participate in activities, or in supporting the person to be able to achieve their identified goals.
Volunteers are required to be 16 years of age and have an interest in working with people with a disability. Volunteering is flexible and can take place over a weekend, weekdays, during school holidays, or evenings. Each volunteer goes through a process of induction and training before working with program participants.
