History

Goulburn Valley Family Care (GVFC) Inc. commenced operations in 1984, as a program of the Burwood Children’s Home. At that time two group homes were set up to enable country children to remain in the region when out-of-home care was required.

In 1994 GVFC was incorporated in its own right. Residential support was replaced by programs offering support to families to assist them to better care for children in their own homes. An interchange program also grow in size and importance.

With cooperation and funding from the Mitchell Shire, GVFC expanded its family support services in Seymour in 1996. A property was purchased in High Street Seymour in 1998, which became a second main office and GVFC became the major provider of family services in Lower Hume as well as Shepparton.

In 2006, GVFC changed its name to FamilyCare. FamilyCare now has offices in Shepparton, Seymour, Wallan and Cobram, with an outreach presence in Kinglake, Alexandra and Kilmore. As well as being the main family service provider across the Goulburn Valley, FamilyCare offers support to families of children with disabilities and carer support services, particularly to those caring for people who are frail or aged.
