Paddock to Plate: Autumn Feast with Matthew Evans
/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Family Care
We are on our way! Thanks to the support of our local community we are in the process of purchasing our new wheelchair accessible commuter bus! At our inaugural Paddock to Plate Event held at The Woolshed @ Emerald Bank we raised an amazing $48,000!
Mathew Evans and Zara joined us all the way from FAT PIG FARM in Tasmania to co-host the event with our friends from the Woolshed Angela, Anthony and Cam. With some incredibly hard work the outdoor area of the woolshed was transformed into “the paddock” and “the harvest” featuring pop up food stands, breweries, wineries and cideries. In the Paddock Glenn and Matt (Snappa’s Mobile food and Catering) produced some amazing appetizers with Kelly’s grass fed Bunbartha Beef. A taste of the new Shepparton Brewery was on offer together with Michelini wines. Guests enjoyed the ambience with some background music provided by a new and upcoming artist Maicy Hocking.
Whilst over in the Harvest area Marco from BelCiBo was cooking his famous wood fired pizzas with a specially created pizza called the Harvest! Mark and Jenny provided a taste on what is offer at Cheeky Grog Cidery made direct from their orchard in Bunbartha. Britt and Ben from Hops and Harvest offered a variety of beverages from Dainton Brewery, Fowles Wines and Furphy Beer.
Guests settled into the Woolshed and experienced an extraordinary autumn feast prepared by Angela and Anthony together with Matthew Evans. The chacuterie platter, matched with Longleat Wines, showcased product from FamilyCare’s own vegetable gardens planted and tended to by the children and young people attending our IntoRec Disability program!
The main featured organic vegetables sourced from Bunbartha Beef and deliciously cooked pork and lamb from Cherry Tree Organics. The meal was matched with a selection of Tallis Dookie Hills Wines. The Feast ended with Kalafatis poached pear accompanied by a delicious new flavored gelato (chocolate amaretto gelato) from Messina especially created for the event! Yum! All of which was enjoyed in presence of music by Briana Lee.
Mathew shared a few stories throughout the day about Fat Pig Farm and filming the latest season of the Gourmet Farmer. Keep an eye out on SBS for the new episodes! What a great opportunity for all involved to meet and work with Matthew and Zara, such great down to earth people!
So much was donated to make this possible and so many people worked incredibly hard to make it happen. Key to the success of the event is the partnerships with sponsors and connections with genuinely great people that were created along the way. Fat Pig Farm is an extension of this philosophy, where we do as we preach; growing and rearing as much food as we can for the table. Fat Pig Farm, a 70acre property is located in the beautiful Huon Valley, south of Hobart, where they adopt a paddock to plate concept.
